Rating appeals, what do we do at storeys:ssp...?
Every five years, the VOA has a statutory duty to carry out a revaluation of all rateable values in England and Wales, which ensures that they reflect changes in the property market.
- New 2010 rateable values effective from 1st April 2010
- Appeal at anytime before 1st April 2015 in England & Wales
- Appeal before 1st October 2010 in Scotland
- The VOA can still alter the 2005 rateable value before 1st April 2011 if an error is found
- We always look out for this when dealing with 2010 appeals
- If there is a change to your property or its locality an MCC appeal can be made
- If the VOA alter your rateable value you can appeal
- If part of your property becomes empty you might want to split your RV into two to gain empty property rate relief on the vacant part
- If you occupy an adjacent property you may want to merge two RV's and benefit from quantum or other allowances
